ocksup started in the Summer of 2009, when Adam Howell was working on a redesign for he and Jim Van Fleet’s dayjob. He had a dozen or so mockups and wanted to create a faux-prototype with them so that everyone in the company could click around and get a feel for the new design and site structure.
After a long search on Google, he found just one webapp that attempted to solve that problem. It was ugly and slow, but did the job. Barely.
At the same time, Adam and Jim started brain-storming on what app they were going to create for the 2009 Rails Rumble.
After a few false starts, they settled on making a better version of the app they were unhappily using and paying for at work simply because there wasn’t something better. Mocksup would be that something.
So, on August 22nd and 23rd, 2009, Adam and Jim created the foundation of what is now Mocksup. And even though Mocksup didn’t win, it probably never would’ve gotten off the ground without that 48 hour deadline.
Almost a year later and Mocksup has now grown to support much more than just website prototyping. It’s also got a corporation behind it — Work Montage — and more and more people and companies are paying for it every month. Take the tour or signup today.
